The Alien Hybrid Garden is a cosmic commons where all beings throughout the universe are invited to meet and interact through the collaborative practice of gardening. Participants communally cultivate fruit and vegetables in local soils mixed with pulverized meteorite. Fortified with a combination of terrestrial and extraterrestrial minerals, the alien hybrid produce harvested from the garden is given away or shared in communal meals. By consuming the fruit and vegetables, and incorporating the minerals into their bodies, people have the chance to become alien hybrids in their own right. The community gardening and the gifting and communal meals are opportunities for humans to transcend xenophobia and intolerance by celebrating their shared otherness.
Preliminary experiments in alien hybrid gardening are currently underway at Arizona State University in collaboration with The Center for Behavior, Institutions and the Environment.
